Redcrosse: England & St George

17 November 12

Coventry Cathedral, 17th November 2012

Redcrosse is a celebration of England and St George. It features brand-new poetry by Andrew Motion, Jo Shapcott, Michael Symmons Roberts, Ewan Fernie and Andrew Shanks, and brand-new music from composer Tim Garland for the celebrated Acoustic Triangle trio and Royal Holloway Choir. Inspired by Edmund Spenser's reworking of the myth of St George in his epic, The Faerie Queene, Redcrosse is in part an original arts event, in part an innovative and inclusive religious service. It takes its audience on an extraordinary and affirming journey into the traditions and values of our national culture while at the same time bringing St George into the present, and into new and hopeful solidarity with a changed and changing contemporary England.

As an iconic home for contemporary art, reconciliation and civic and religious renovation, Coventry Cathedral is the perfect venue for this innovative project.

The Royal Shakespeare Company is presenting Redcrosse for the Cathedral's Jubilee with a cast of RSC actors.
