Professor Isabel Rivers of Queen Mary, University of London, joint Director of the Dr Williams’s Centre for Dissenting Studies at Queen Mary, directs a major research programme into the history of dissenting libraries and academies 1660-1860. A section of the study of the period 1720-1860 is funded by a Phase 2 Large Grant. She met with Norman Winter in the Reading Room of the Library to give an overview of the project, describe previous understandings which are being challenged, and to assess the value of the new research.
